Frequently Asked Questions
-
I’ll ask you a few questions to learn more about why you are currently seeking out therapy at this time and any past experiences in therapy. I will also go over my approaches so you can get a sense of how I work to see if we would be a good fit to work together. You’ll also be able to ask any questions you may have and we could start scheduling our intake session if you would like to move forward with services with me.

I currently offer sessions both virtually and in-person in the Bay Area. Telehealth sessions are conducted using a secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform that only clients receive access to. If you wish to meet in-person, please let me know so that I give you further information.
Note: I am licensed to provide therapy only to those who are physically located in the state of California at the time of our session.

I ask for a weekly commitment of least 3 months when we first start working together. I do recommend weekly sessions at minimum for the first 6 months, however. Weekly appointments tend to lead to greater momentum and rapport for us to work towards your treatment goals. We will review session frequency and discuss changes to the schedule based on what is clinically appropriate. If you feel a change is warranted sooner, feel free to bring it up in session so we can discuss it.
I offer longer and/or more frequent sessions if it is desired. Please reach out and inquire further for more information.

No, I do not accept insurance. To ensure the utmost protection of my clients' personal and confidential information, I have chosen not to work with insurance companies. This allows us to collaborate without restrictions on things such as the number of sessions or the types of therapy we can use. If you have insurance, it may cover therapy sessions with an out-of-network (OON) provider like myself. In such cases, you can request a superbill to submit for reimbursement or to apply towards your annual deductible. As an OON provider, fees are due prior to our session and are paid out of pocket.
Please note that I do not handle any correspondences with insurance companies. It is your responsibility to manage this process. If your insurance company requires your records in order to approve a claim, you will need to request the records from me and send them yourself. As a non-contracted provider, I do not participate in chart audits or claims justification, and I will not communicate with the insurance company on your behalf. This may make it harder for you to obtain reimbursement, and it may result in denial of a claim.
Please note that some services may not be covered even with a superbill. I cannot guarantee nor take responsibility for your reimbursement. To understand your out-of-network benefits, I recommend reviewing your policy on your insurance provider's website. Most insurance carriers offer step-by-step guidance and provide the necessary forms for submission.

Late Cancellation Fees
A cancellation is considered late if you cancel less than 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. Please note that reminders are sent as a courtesy. It is your responsibility to make sure to cancel in a timely manner in order to avoid a late cancellation fee. Any late cancellations will be charged at 100% of your scheduled session fee. In limited circumstances, I will consider issuing a credit in the case of an emergency. Work issues do not constitute emergencies. This cancellation policy also applies even if missing the appointment was an unintentional act.
I reserve the right to terminate therapy with clients who show a pattern of late cancellations. If you are an active client, I have a responsibility to meet with you regularly. If meeting at the scheduled time no longer works for you, please reach out about finding a different time for us to meet regularly.
Missed Appointment Fees
If you do not cancel with at least 48 hours notice and do not show up for an appointment, that is considered to be a missed appointment, otherwise known as a “no-show.” The full fee will be charged for missed appointments based on the amount of time scheduled.
With text, email, and voicemail, there is always a way to let me know if you cannot make your appointment, except in the case of an emergency. In limited circumstances, I will consider issuing a credit in the case of an emergency. Documentation of the emergency may be requested. There will be no refunds for no shows/missed appointments.
Please be advised that services will be terminated in the case of repeated no shows.

For the purposes of cancellations and no-shows, an emergency is defined as one or more of the following:
- You are in the emergency room for yourself or an immediate family member.
- Someone you take care of has fallen ill suddenly.
- You are in a serious automobile accident.
- You are in a situation that involves law enforcement or incarceration.
- Death

Unfortunately, crisis intervention is difficult to provide in a private practice setting, so I do not provide crisis intervention. Non-urgent emails, calls, and texts will be returned within 48 business hours. In the event of a medical or psychiatric emergency or an emergency involving a threat to your safety or the safety of others, please go to the nearest emergency department or call 911. You can also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988. If your situation does not warrant the above solutions but would like additional time for processing, you can contact me to schedule additional sessions.
